You can set a minimum time on a lesson, require students to watch the lesson videos, or both.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This document explains how lesson engagement requirements work and how to set them up. It also describes what students see while a requirement is active.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"prerequisites\"><a href=\"#prerequisites\" title=\"\">Voraussetzungen<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lesson engagement requirements are part of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/de\/docs\/getting-started-with-memberpress-courses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MemberPress Kurse Zusatzmodul<\/a><\/strong>. They are available in MemberPress Courses version 1.7.0 and later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"how-lesson-engagement-requirements-work\"><a href=\"#how-lesson-engagement-requirements-work\" title=\"\">How Lesson Engagement Requirements Work<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each lesson has two optional engagement requirements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Minimum time on lesson<\/strong>: the student must spend a set amount of time on the lesson;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Video watching<\/strong>: the student must watch the videos embedded in the lesson.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both requirements are off by default. You can turn on one requirement or both for any lesson. With both on, the student must meet both before completing the lesson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While a requirement is active, the lesson&#8217;s <strong>Complete and Continue<\/strong> button stays locked. MemberPress unlocks it once the student meets every requirement on the lesson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These requirements encourage students to spend time with the lesson content. They measure time on the page and video playback, not understanding. To test what students learned, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/de\/docs\/add-memberpress-quizzes-to-courses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">add a quiz to the course<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Users who can edit the lesson, such as administrators, bypass both requirements. To see a lesson as students see it, log in with a student account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"minimum-time\"><a href=\"#minimum-time\" title=\"\">Setting a Minimum Time on a Lesson<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The minimum time counts only while the lesson is open in the student&#8217;s active browser tab. The timer pauses when the student switches to another tab or window, minimizes the browser, or leaves the lesson. It continues from the same time when the student returns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Time the student already spent on the lesson stays saved, even if they leave and return days later. Resetting the student&#8217;s course progress clears it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To set a minimum time on a lesson:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open the lesson editor through the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/de\/docs\/creating-memberpress-courses\/#editing-lessons-quizzes-assignments\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lehrplan<\/a><\/strong>. If the lesson is still a draft, click <strong>ver\u00f6ffentlichen.<\/strong> oder <strong>Entwurf speichern<\/strong> stattdessen.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To remove the minimum time, set both fields to 0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"require-videos\"><a href=\"#require-videos\" title=\"\">Requiring Students to Watch Lesson Videos<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With this requirement on, the student must watch every supported video in the lesson. The requirement supports these video sources:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>YouTube videos embedded in the lesson;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vimeo videos embedded in the lesson;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Self-hosted videos added with the <strong>Video<\/strong> Block.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The requirement ignores other sources, such as VideoPress or TikTok embeds, plain video links, and custom iframes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A student needs to watch at least 90% of each video. They can watch the parts in any order. Jumping to a later point does not count the skipped part as watched. Reaching the end of the video is not enough on its own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The optional <strong>Prevent skipping ahead<\/strong> setting stops students from moving past the point they have watched. If a student drags the video forward, the video returns to that point. Students can still go back and rewatch earlier parts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To require students to watch the lesson videos:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open the lesson editor, and scroll down to the <strong>Lesson Settings<\/strong> panel in the <strong>Lektion<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Schalten Sie die <strong>Require watching video(s) before completing<\/strong> Option.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Optionally, toggle on the <strong>Prevent skipping ahead<\/strong> option. In this case, the video requirement does not lock the lesson. Students can complete it without watching any video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"countdown\"><a href=\"#countdown\" title=\"\">Showing or Hiding the Lesson Countdown<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By default, lessons with a minimum time show a live countdown to students. The <strong>Countdown-Timer f\u00fcr die Lektion anzeigen<\/strong> course setting controls this countdown for all lessons in a course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hiding the countdown changes only what students see. Quiz timers stay visible whether the setting is on or off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"what-students-see\"><a href=\"#what-students-see\" title=\"\">Was die Sch\u00fcler sehen<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When a lesson has a minimum time, a notice above the lesson content shows the required time. The <strong>Complete and Continue<\/strong> button shows a countdown instead of its usual label.
