The larger your organization is, the more tasks you'll have on your plate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ideally, your nonprofit organization should have a website that enables you to take care of many of those tasks easily, while promoting your organization at the same time. Some organizations <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"focus entirely on social media (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/sproutsocial.com\/insights\/nonprofit-social-media-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\">focus entirely on social media<\/a>, but that doesn't provide the same amount of flexibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, a custom-built web solution that includes all the features you'll need would be very expensive. With <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"WordPress (opens in a new tab)\">WordPress<\/a>, fortunately, you can easily create a website for your nonprofit organization on a modest budget. Then you can use plugins (many of which are free) to add in all the features you'll need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Set_Up_a_Volunteer_Site_for_Your_Nonprofit_Organization_In_3_Steps\"><\/span>How to Set Up a Volunteer Site for Your Nonprofit Organization (In 3 Steps)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>All you need to know is how to get started, so let's get the ball rolling! For this tutorial, we're going to focus on three core features that just about any nonprofit website needs: volunteer registration, community boards, and event tracking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Put those features together, and you have a great system to keep your nonprofit organization running smoothly.\u00a0 You can use either an existing or a new WordPress installation. However, keep in mind that you'll be adding some advanced functionality, so <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/support\/article\/how-to-install-wordpress\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"a clean WordPress setup (opens in a new tab)\">a clean WordPress setup<\/a> would be best.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step_1_Enable_Volunteer_Signups\"><\/span>Step 1: Enable Volunteer Signups<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The first thing you'll need to do is set up a way for new volunteers to sign up. WordPress enables user registration by default, but it doesn't offer you a lot of options for doing so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ideally, you'll want to create a dedicated \u2018volunteer' user group, with access to private information and discussions that non-registered users won't be able to see. Fortunately, you can do all that with <a href=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">MemberPress<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To get started, you'll want to install the plugin and <a href=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/docs\/creating-groups\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"create a new membership group (opens in a new tab)\">create a new membership group<\/a>.\u00a0Navigate to\u00a0<em>MemberPress > Memberships > Add New<\/em>, set the title of your new group to something like \u201cvolunteers\u201d and add a description for it if you like. You don't want to charge people for the privilege of volunteering, so you'll probably want to follow suit. Likewise, remember to set the\u00a0<em>Access\u00a0<\/em>setting to\u00a0<em>Lifetime<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this section, you can also configure a \u2018thank you' email for new volunteers. When you're done, save the membership group. Our example is pretty simple, but keep in mind that you can add more information fields for new volunteers. For now, though, let's move on to other features.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step_2_Set_Up_Community_Forums\"><\/span>Step 2: Set Up Community Forums<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Your volunteers need a place where they can discuss future events, receive instructions, and kick back to relax with each other. One of the most efficient ways to do this is with an online forum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With a community forum, you can create new threads for upcoming events, enable notifications for new comments, and more. It's a simple solution to the complex problem that is organizing a large group of volunteers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>WordPress enables you to set up discussion forums using plugins.
