For this tutorial, we\u2019re going to show you how to restrict content on your website to paying members only. Before you get started, you\u2019ll need to sign up for a MemberPress subscription and install and activate the plugin<\/a> on your site. Once you\u2019re ready, move on to Step 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/span>Step 1: Set Up a New Membership Type and Signup Form<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
MemberPress puts a lot of advanced tools at your disposal to help you create a membership site that fits your needs. Despite all those bells and whistles, the plugin\u2019s core membership system is remarkably simple to set up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Once you activate the plugin, a new\u00a0MemberPress\u00a0<\/em>tab will appear in your dashboard. Go to\u00a0MemberPress > Memberships\u00a0<\/em>and click on\u00a0Add New.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Depending on your needs, you can create as many membership types or tiers as you want. What content users in those tiers have access to will depend on the rules you configure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/span>Step 2: Configure Your Membership Rules<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Now that you have a new membership type, you can set up custom access rules for your site\u2019s content. To get started, go to\u00a0MemberPress > Rules\u00a0<\/em>and click on\u00a0Add New<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the next screen, you\u2019ll be able to decide what type of content users with each membership can access. Look for the menu under\u00a0Protected Content\u00a0<\/em>and decide what type of rule you want to use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In this example, we used the\u00a0All Content with Tag\u00a0<\/em>rule and set up a new tag called\u00a0members-only<\/em>. Under\u00a0Access Conditions<\/em>, we configured it so that only\u00a0Premium\u00a0<\/em>members will be able to access content with this tag:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once you publish that rule, all you have to do assign the tag members-only<\/em> to the content you want to hide from non-members. If a user who doesn\u2019t meet that criteria tries to access one of those pages, they\u2019ll see a message that tells them they\u2019re unauthorized to do so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Keep in mind that just as with membership types, you can set up as many access rules as you need for your website.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/span>Step 3: Link to Your Membership Registration Page From Your Menu<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
During Step 1, we set up a new membership type and signup page for it. To find what that page\u2019s URL is, navigate to\u00a0MemberPress > Memberships\u00a0<\/em>and look under the\u00a0URL\u00a0<\/em>column next to its title:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
