different options to protect partial content with MemberPress and how to use them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube Codes<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You can partially protect content by wrapping the partial content codes around the content you want to hide:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 1:<\/strong> Create and save a mind that the partial rule shortcodes previously had used <strong>if =\u201drule:XX\u201d <\/strong>to recognize the MemberPress membership IDs (e.g. <strong>mepr-show if =\u201drule:XX\u201d unauth=\u201dboth\u201d<\/strong>). <br><br>If you have any partial rule shortcodes with the old syntax, please update them using <strong>rules=\u201dXX\u201d<\/strong> instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here, the protected content will look like this for your unauthorized users on the front end:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/file-xPchJqtzj6.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 3:<\/strong> You can set the global unauthorized message by clicking the \u201cDefault Unauthorized Message\u201d link\u00a0under <em>MemberPress -> Settings -> Pages<\/em> tab:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/file-ZUIJgAVMgW.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In case you have different memberships that are protecting different kinds of content, and you want each kind of content to show a different unauthorized message, you can override that message on your rule by setting a custom message that will be shown if a user gets triggered by this rule:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/file-OtlRulHZ0R.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"using-excerpts\"><a href=\"#using-excerpts\" title=\"\">Using Excerpts<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One cleaner way to protect your partial content is to define excerpts under the Unauthorized Access settings. You can find these settings when editing your <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/docs\/rules-overview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">MemberPress rules<\/a><\/strong> and under the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/docs\/pages\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Pages tab in MemberPress settings<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"single-post-more-tag\"><strong><a href=\"#single-post-more-tag\" title=\"\">Protecting a Single Post With the \u201cMore\u201d Tag<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 1:<\/strong>\u00a0If you've already created a Partial rule as described in the section above, Edit your Partial rule into \u201cA Single Post rule\u201d or create a new Single Post rule and hit the \u201cSave Rule\u201d button to save it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"348\" src=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/file-V1SOpj1xOC-1024x348.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-65548\" srcset=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/file-V1SOpj1xOC-1024x348.png 1024w, https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/file-V1SOpj1xOC-300x102.png 300w, https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/file-V1SOpj1xOC-768x261.png 768w, https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/file-V1SOpj1xOC-50x17.png 50w, https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/file-V1SOpj1xOC-18x6.png 18w, https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/file-V1SOpj1xOC-501x170.png 501w, https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/file-V1SOpj1xOC-840x285.png 840w, https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/file-V1SOpj1xOC-1216x413.png 1216w, https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/file-V1SOpj1xOC-700x238.png 700w, https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/file-V1SOpj1xOC-156x53.png 156w, https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/file-V1SOpj1xOC-1080x367.png 1080w, https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/file-V1SOpj1xOC.png 1270w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 2:<\/strong> Under the \u201cUnauthorized Access\u201d section on the rule page, set the \u201cMore tag\u201d from the \u201cExcerpts\u201d drop-down list:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/file-oqG9Mzda24.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>If set, everything above the More tag will be shown, and everything below the tag will be hidden from unauthorized users. The More tag is fully\u00a0supported by WordPress and inserts an HTML\u00a0comment called \u201cMore\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 3:<\/strong>\u00a0To add the More tag, click on the \u201cInsert Read More tag\u201d icon within your editor:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/file-D5tOLEa6hn.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The More tag should be successfully inserted into your post:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/file-ohFqZISazu.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>If you look at your post on the front end in an incognito window, you will see that the unauthorized message and the login form are shown instead of the content below the More tag:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/file-8t4yG3QuDt.png\">This works well and is very convenient if you have one post that you need to protect in this way. But what if you had hundreds of posts that needed to be protected without having to create a rule for every single post? You can achieve this by tagging the posts; read on to see how.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"multiple-posts-more-tag\"><strong><a href=\"#multiple-posts-more-tag\" title=\"\">Protecting Multiple Posts With the \u201cMore\u201d Tag<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 1:<\/strong>\u00a0Edit your Single Post rule into the Posts Tagged rule, type in \u201cmembers-only\u201d, for instance, and hit the \u201cSave Rule\u201d button to save it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/file-47LNEZbKsW.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 2. <\/strong>Go to your Posts page, click on the \u201cScreen Options\u201d, and set the number of posts you want to show per page:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/file-X0mRDyACJi.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 3.<\/strong> Select all posts you want to tag select the \u201cEdit\u201d option from the \u201cBulk Actions\u201d drop-down menu and hit the \u201cApply\u201d button:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/file-XwAw5YsRRo.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 4.<\/strong> Add the \u201cmembers-only\u201d tag, then hit the \u201cUpdate\u201d button:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/file-OnQtHJ0tWt.png\">You will notice that all your selected posts on the Posts page have the \u201cmembers-only tag\u201d now:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" \u201cmembers-only\u201d tag :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/file-NXrx65K5ni.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The newly created post will automatically get protected like all the other posts that were assigned the \u201cmembers-only\u201d tag:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure More tag to your post to ensure that everything under the tag is protected, then click the \u201cUpdate\u201d button to update it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" href=\"#adding-post-excerpt\" title=\"\">Adding Post Excerpt<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 1:\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Under the \u201cUnauthorized Access\u201d section on the rule page, select the \u201cPost Excerpt\u201d option from the \u201cExcerpts\u201d drop-down list:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/file-TM60YcTKyl.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 2:<\/strong> Go to your post page and enable the excerpts by checking the \u201cExcerpt\u201d checkbox under the \u201cScreen Options\u201d:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/file-9PmiEyYHIe.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 3: <\/strong>Copy and paste a part of your post's content into the \u201cExcerpt\u201d box on the Post page:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/file-bN28g15yVM.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Your unauthorized users will see whatever content you have within the Excerpt box.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"custom-excerpt\"><strong><a href=\"#custom-excerpt\" title=\"\">Setting Custom Excerpt<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 1<\/strong>: Under the \u201cUnauthorized Access\u201d section on the rule page, select the \u201cCustom\u201d option from the Excerpts drop-down list, set the number of characters you'd like to be shown to unauthorized users, and save the rule:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/file-9OQjpvJCDV.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This way, your unauthorized users will see only the first 1000 characters of the post (notice the triple dots at the end of the excerpt), followed by the unauthorized message and the login form:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/file-84vlcgQ1al.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-ht-blocks-messages wp-block-hb-message wp-block-hb-message--withicon is-style-alert\"> <strong>Note: <\/strong>Post excerpts allow the use of HTML tags, including links (URLs and images), while Custom excerpts allow\/show plain text only, stripping all HTML tags.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"gutenberg\"><a href=\"#gutenberg\" title=\"\">Protecting Partial Content With the Gutenberg Editor<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This method is very similar to the wrapping partial content codes method.
