And it still does\u2026 for now. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, <a href=\"http:\/\/memberpress.com\/docs\/connect-paypal-complete-payments-to-memberpress\" title=\"\">PayPal has announced the end-of-life timeline for its older API systems<\/a>, and the clock is ticking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>January 2027 is the hard deadline.<\/strong> After that, sites still relying on older PayPal integrations will stop being able to accept new payments through them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This isn't a drill, and it's not something to put off until Q4. <\/strong>Here's everything you need to know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_PayPal_Is_Changing\"><\/span>What PayPal Is Changing<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>PayPal has been moving merchants toward its newer payment infrastructure for some time now, and the timeline has become official. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Their older payment systems are being retired, with a shutdown in January 2027.<\/strong> After that point, any site still running the older PayPal integration will stop being able to process new payments through it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_This_Means_for_Your_MemberPress_Site\"><\/span>What This Means for Your MemberPress Site<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If your site currently uses <strong>MemberPress's existing PayPal gateway, don't worry, your existing subscribers aren't going anywhere.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Active subscriptions that were set up through the legacy PayPal gateway will continue to process correctly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You don't need to migrate anyone's subscription or cancel anything. <\/strong>The old gateway can stay active in the background, you just want to stop new signups going through it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What <em>will<\/em> stop working at some point after January 2027 is new payments through the legacy gateway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So if you leave it as-is and a new member tries to sign up using PayPal, the payment will fail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fix is straightforward: <strong>add the new PayPal Complete Payments gateway, and hide (NOT delete) your old PayPal gateway from your checkout forms.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That way, existing subscribers keep renewing normally, and new members sign up through the updated integration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Introducing_PayPal_Complete_Payments\"><\/span>Introducing PayPal Complete Payments<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While this all sounds urgent and scary, this news deserves some fanfare. Now, PayPal Complete Payments connects with a few clicks. You click \u201cConnect with PayPal,\u201d log in, grant permissions, and you're done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Subscriptions_are_handled_by_MemberPress\"><\/span>Subscriptions are handled by MemberPress<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In your PayPal dashboard, renewals show up as individual charges rather than a recurring subscription. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MemberPress manages the billing schedule on its end, so everything looks and works exactly as you'd expect inside MemberPress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Refunds_sync_automatically\"><\/span>Refunds sync automatically<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Refunds processed in MemberPress push through to PayPal automatically, and refunds made directly in PayPal sync back to MemberPress. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Partial refunds need a small manual step (process in PayPal, then update the transaction status in MemberPress), but the sync works both directions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_One_Thing_Not_to_Do\"><\/span>The One Thing Not to Do<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>Do not delete your existing PayPal gateway.<\/strong> I repeat:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>DO NOT DELETE YOUR EXISTING PAYPAL GATEWAY<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you delete it, MemberPress loses the record it needs to process renewals for existing subscribers who signed up through that gateway. Those subscriptions will break.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead, once you've added PayPal Complete Payments and confirmed it's working, go into your payment settings and <strong>hide the old gateway from your checkout forms<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>New members won't see it, but renewals for existing members will continue processing behind the scenes without any issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_to_Do_Right_Now\"><\/span>What to Do Right Now<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Here's the practical checklist:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1. Check your plan.<\/strong> PayPal Complete Payments is available on MemberPress Growth and Scale plans. If you're on the Launch plan, you'll need to upgrade first. You can do that from the MemberPress account page using the Change Plan link.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. Add the new gateway.<\/strong> Go to <strong>Dashboard<\/strong> > <strong>MemberPress <\/strong>> <strong>Settings<\/strong> > <strong>Payments<\/strong>, click <strong>+ Add Payment Method<\/strong>, and select <strong>PayPal Complete Payments<\/strong> from the dropdown.
