There you'll find a link to install the Mailchimp 3.0\u00a0Add-on.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><p>Head to the\u00a0<strong>MemberPress Menu\u00a0<\/strong>> <strong>Settings <\/strong>> <strong>Marketing <\/strong>tab. You should now see Mailchimp 3.0\u00a0listed<\/p> <figure><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"max-width: 100%;\" src=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/MC-Settings-Page.png\"><\/figure><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 2 \u2013 Input Mailchimp API Key<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>You'll find your API Key in your\u00a0Mailchimp\u00a0Account settings. Click the drop-down arrow near the top right of the page where you see your\u00a0Mailchimp\u00a0account name. Then click on <strong>Account <\/strong>> <strong>Extras <\/strong>drop down\u00a0> <strong>API keys<\/strong>\u00a0>\u00a0<strong>Your API keys <\/strong>section. You may need to create an API key if none is listed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If everything checks out, you should see the <em>\u201cEverything's Chimpy\u201d<\/em> message.<br><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11070\" src=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/MC30_Options_21.png\" sizes=\"(max-width: 488px) 100vw, 488px\" alt=\"MC30_Options_2\" width=\"488\" height=\"122\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you receive an error saying,\u00a0 <em>\u201cSomething went wrong. Double check your input\u201d<\/em> after you've entered your\u00a0Mailchimp\u00a0API Key correctly, this generally means that\u00a0Mailchimp's\u00a0API service (Akamai) is blocking your IP address as suspicious. You'll need to contact\u00a0Mailchimp\u00a0support to get things resolved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 3 \u2013 Choose Your Audience<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The\u00a0Mailchimp\u00a03.0\u00a0Integration uses <strong>only one Audience<\/strong>. Select the list from the option just below where you entered your API Key. This is the audience you'd like to be associated with your website members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 4 \u2013 Choose Global Mailchimp Merge Tag<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>MailChimp uses <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/mailchimp.com\/help\/getting-started-with-merge-tags\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">merge tags<\/a><\/strong> to store the information collected on registration in your audience. For the MemberPress integration to work, you must choose the global merge tag the integration should use. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MemberPress will add this Merge Tag to all new members who sign up on your site and set its value to \u201c0\u201d or \u201c1\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A value of \u201c0\u201d is set if a user did not check your opt-in checkbox when signing up. If you'd like to set up a special Tag for each Membership level (strongly recommended), follow Step 5 below. <br><img decoding=\"async\" sizes=\"(max-width: 445px) 100vw, 445px\" width=\"445\" height=\"65\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11071\" src=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/MC30_Options_3.png\" alt=\"MC30_Options_3\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-ht-blocks-messages wp-block-hb-message wp-block-hb-message--withicon is-style-danger\">Note: MemberPress integration with MailChimp supports the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/mailchimp.com\/help\/getting-started-with-merge-tags\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">merge tags<\/a><\/strong> but doesn't support <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/mailchimp.com\/help\/getting-started-tags\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">MailChimp tags<\/a><\/strong> used to organize your contacts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 5 \u2013 Per Membership Merge Tags (Optional, but STRONGLY recommended)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The power of this integration comes from your\u00a0ability to add a specific Merge Tag for each Membership level. We recommend that you create a \u201ctext\u201d type Tag for each of your Memberships. MemberPress will set the value of these Tags to \u201cactive\u201d when the member is active on that Membership, and \u201cinactive\u201d when the member is no longer active. This is a powerful way to create specific segments for your List and target only the customers you want for your various marketing\/news Campaigns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To create a MERGE Tag in your\u00a0Mailchimp\u00a0List for each of your Membership levels, follow these instructions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Head to your Audience fields and MERGE tags settings for the Audience. You can get here by going to the <strong>Audience <\/strong>tab from your Mailchimp Dashboard. Then use the dropdown option at the right of the page to select <b>Settings<\/b>. Next,\u00a0click on the <strong>Audience fields and *|MERGE|* tags<\/strong>\u00a0option. As is shown below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Finding-MC-Merge-tag-Settings.gif\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Create new \u201cText\u201d type fields, which are not required and are not visible. We recommend creating a global Tag (e.g., All Website Users), and other Tags for each Membership Level (e.g., Bronze, Silver, and Gold)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"771\" height=\"426\" src=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/MC30_Options_5.png\" alt=\"MC30_Options_5\" class=\"wp-image-11073\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Lastly, you can specify the Tag to use for each Membership level when editing the Membership (under the Advanced tab).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"619\" height=\"366\" src=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/MC30_Options_6.png\" alt=\"MC30_Options_6\" class=\"wp-image-11074\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Recap<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>MemberPress will update the value of your Membership-specific Merge Tags to active or\u00a0inactive depending on the status of the member's subscription to that Membership level. You can use this information to create targeted, dynamic (auto-updating) segments for your List.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MemberPress also sets a value of \u201c1\u201d to the global Merge Tag you have defined in the <strong>MemberPress menu\u00a0<\/strong>> <strong>Settings<\/strong>\u00a0> <strong>Marketing <\/strong>tab. This value may be set to a \u201c0\u201d if you have the opt-in checkbox enabled, and the user did NOT check that box when signing up. Think of the global Tag as a catch-all for every member on your site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-ht-blocks-messages wp-block-hb-message wp-block-hb-message--withicon is-style-danger\"><strong>Note<\/strong>: MemberPress will <strong>sync the member data <\/strong>when users<strong> subscribe<\/strong> <strong>and <\/strong>if their <strong>subscription expires<\/strong>. <strong>If members change their user profile data<\/strong>, the new <strong>data won't automatically sync<\/strong> with MailChimp. You will need to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/docs\/send-notification-when-users-change-account-data\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">set up a workaround and manually update data on MailChimp<\/a><\/strong> to keep your audiences up-to-date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Send Custom Fields to Mailchimp<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>By default, MemberPress sends emails and first and last names to\u00a0Mailchimp. It also updates global merge and per-membership tags. If you want to send a custom field you created in the MemberPress menu > Settings > Fields tab, you'll need to follow these steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Go to your WordPress Dashboard > MemberPress menu > Settings > Fields tab, and create a custom field as explained in the Creating Custom Fields section of <a href=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/docs\/fields\/\">this article<\/a>. Alternatively, you can\u00a0copy the slug of a custom field. In the example below the slug is <strong style=\"background-color: initial;\">mepr_company_name<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/file-ZTu7OuqEYz-1.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Log into your Mailchimp account, head to your Audience fields, and MERGE tags settings for the Audience. You can get here by going to the Audience tab from your Mailchimp Dashboard. Then use the dropdown option at the right of the page to select Settings, then click on the Audience fields and *|MERGE|* tags option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Create a new \u201cText\u201d type field that is not required and not visible, and has the same label as your custom field in the MemberPress menu > Settings > Fields tab. Make sure to save your changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-ht-blocks-messages wp-block-hb-message wp-block-hb-message--withicon is-style-alert\"><strong>NOTE:<\/strong> This will work only with the custom field of \u201cText\u201d type, so you can't use it with dropdowns, multi-select, or any other field types.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/file-vyjTuwFnee.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Copy the tag under the \u201cPut this tag in your content\u201d column. In our case it's <strong>MMERGE9<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Go back to your WordPress Dashboard and insert the code below at the end of your theme's functions.php file, or\u00a0install the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/plugins\/insert-headers-and-footers\/\">WPCode<\/a>\u00a0plugin and add the code there (please check this article for details:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/docs\/how-to-add-custom-code-snippets-in-wpcode\/\">How to add custom code snippets in WPCode<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f5f5f5\">add_filter('mepr-mailchimptags-add-subscriber-args', function($args, $user) {\n    $company = isset($_POST['mepr_company_name']) ?  sanitize_text_field($_POST['mepr_company_name']) : '';\n    $args['merge_fields']['MMERGE9'] = $company;\n    return $args;\n}, 10, 2);\n\t<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Make sure to replace the <strong>MMERGE9<\/strong> tag in the third line with the tag you copied above. You'll also need to replace both occurrences of the\u00a0<strong>mepr_company_name<\/strong>\u00a0slug in the second line with your slug from the first step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When users sign up for a membership, MemberPress will get the value entered into the custom field and send it to\u00a0Mailchimp. You'll see this value next to the new contact in your\u00a0Mailchimp\u00a0Audience table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/memberpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/file-TkZRqgtI4u.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>That's it. You can duplicate the steps to send as many custom fields as you want to\u00a0Mailchimp! Just duplicate lines 2-3 in the code above, and replace tags, custom fields, and variable names.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-ht-blocks-messages wp-block-hb-message wp-block-hb-message--withicon is-style-danger\"><strong>Note<\/strong>: You can use the same steps to send address fields to Mailchimp.
