Configuring Subscription Groups in MemberPress App

Subscription Groups organize related subscription products like tiered membership plans or varying billing cycles. Groups ensure users hold only one active subscription per group at a time. This document explains how to create and assign subscription groups for iOS and Android products.

Understanding Subscription Groups

Subscription Groups prevent subscription overlap within defined product collections. Groups enable automatic subscription switching when members purchase different tiers or durations.

Tiered membership plans like Bronze, Silver, and Gold memberships can be grouped to prevent simultaneous subscriptions. Members can upgrade or downgrade within the group without holding multiple active subscriptions.

Duration variations like monthly, quarterly, or yearly billing cycles can be grouped by plan type. Members select billing frequency while maintaining a single subscription status. Automatic subscription switching cancels previous subscriptions when members purchase different products within the same group. This behavior prevents duplicate charges and access confusion.

Understanding Platform Requirements

iOS and Android handle subscription groups differently, requiring manual configuration for consistency.

iOS App Store Connect requires all auto-renewable subscriptions to be assigned to Subscription Groups. Other product types cannot be grouped on iOS.

Android Google Play does not support subscription groups natively. MemberPress App provides group logic enabling consistent behavior across both platforms.

Subscription groups must be created in App Store Connect first, then mirrored in WordPress with manual product assignment for both iOS and Android products.

Creating Subscription Groups in App Store Connect

Subscription group creation occurs in App Store Connect before WordPress configuration.

  1. Log in to App Store Connect at appstoreconnect.apple.com.
  2. Haga clic en Mis aplicaciones in the navigation.
  3. Seleccione MemberPress App from the app list.
  4. Haga clic en Subscription Groups in the sidebar under In-App Purchases.
  5. Review existing subscription groups or create new groups.
  6. Note the exact name of each subscription group for WordPress configuration.

Nota: Subscription group names must be recorded exactly as displayed in App Store Connect for accurate WordPress configuration.

Adding Subscription Groups in WordPress

Subscription groups created in App Store Connect must be added to WordPress for product assignment.

  1. Vaya a Dashboard > MP App > In-App Purchases.
  2. Haga clic en el botón Subscription Groups ficha.
  3. Haga clic en Add New Subscription Group.
  4. Enter the subscription group name exactly as it appears in App Store Connect.
  5. Haga clic en Guardar to create the subscription group.
  6. Repeat steps 3-5 for each subscription group from App Store Connect.

Nota: Group names must match App Store Connect exactly to ensure proper iOS product synchronization.

Assigning Products to Subscription Groups

Products must be assigned to subscription groups for grouping functionality to work correctly.

  1. Vaya a Dashboard > MP App > In-App Purchases.
  2. Haga clic en el botón Productos ficha.
  3. Haga clic en Añadir nuevo to create a new product or Editar next to an existing product.
  4. Verify Tipo de producto is set to:
    • Auto-Renewable Subscription for iOS products;
    • Suscripción for Android products.
  5. Localice el Subscription Group desplegable.
  6. Select the appropriate subscription group from the dropdown.
  7. Haga clic en Update Product to save the assignment.
  8. Repeat steps 3-7 for all subscription products requiring group assignment.

Nota: Both iOS and Android products must be assigned to the same subscription group to ensure consistent behavior across platforms.
