Google+ Shutdown: How Should Your Membership Business Respond?

If you haven't heard already, social media platform Google+ officially started shutting down user accounts in April, due to “low usage” and significant data leaks and will remain open until August 2019.

But what does the Google+ shutdown mean for your business and how you market your membership site? What should you do now? Here are a few tips to help you out!

1. Upgrade Your Security

Because of the circumstances that led to Google+ shutting down, Google is working to be more vigilant when it comes to privacy and security. It is also a good idea for small business owners to check your security settings in all of the Google apps you use in your business, and even in your personal time. 2. Download Your Data

If your membership business was heavily active on Google+, then you don't want to lose all of your photos, videos, and connections, right? Thankfully, Google does give users a way to download and save their data before the platform completely shuts down.

3. Update Your Branding

If you previously had a Google+ profile in your membership business' marketing strategy, now is the time to start revamping those plans and making sure that you update your branding materials. Be sure to go ahead and remove the Google+ share / follow buttons from your website, blogs, graphics, and more.

4. Migrate Your Community

Does your membership business have a community on Google+? Now is the time to move your Google+ community over to another social network, such as LinkedIn or Facebook, where people typically already have social platforms and can easily access your group.
