MemberPress 1.2.8 has been released. It is an incremental bug-fix and maintenance release. Along with it are a few changes / new features which we'll go over now.
Membership-specific Reminders
We know a lot of you have been patiently waiting for this one, and it's finally here! You can now choose which Membership(s) a Reminder is sent out to. No more having to blast out the same general Reminder email for every Membership level. Instead, you now have the option to select the Membership(s) you want the Reminder to go out to.
New Upgrade/Downgrade Pop-Up
First, we've renamed the “upgrade” link to now read “change plan”. However, with 1.2.8 when the user clicks the “change plan” link, they will now see a small pop-up with the option to choose their new plan from there. They will no longer be redirected to the Group pricing page when clicking the “change plan” link.
New MailChimp 3.0 Integration
With MailChimp deprecating their old 2.0 API, we've decided to write up a new MailChimp add on which uses their newer 3.0 API instead. This new integration uses only one list instead of multiple lists, and instead relies on Merge Tags to help you to segment your lists based on your subscriber's subscription status. We're excited to see how you all use this new add on to segment your lists based on those Merge Tags.
What if I'm using the old add on still? The old add on which relies on the 2.0 API will no longer work after MailChimp shuts down their 2.0 API at the end of 2016. We will be writing up a full migration guide between the two soon and will post it in the User Manual when it's completed. Feel free to contact our support if you have any questions/concerns.
New Tag-based Drip (getdrip.com) Integration
We're excited to announce a new Tag-based integration with Drip. Our current Drip integration uses Campaigns instead of Tags, but many of you were not happy with that type of integration – so we'll be phasing out our old Campaign-based Drip add on, and will instead be releasing the newer Tag-based integration later this week.
New WordPress User Roles Integration
We now support setting up different WordPress Roles depending on which Membership(s) the user is subscribed to. The Role(s) are also removed from the user if their Subscription is cancelled or lapses. This can be useful for a lot of various plugin integrations like bbPress Roles, Event plugins which rely on Roles, providing discounts in WooCommerce based on the Role(s) of a user and so on. We are excited about this new User Roles add on and hope you all will put it to good use!
Other Changes
There's a couple other small changes that I'll mention only briefly here.
- Added a new custom field type for URL's
- Improved MemberPress' ability to protect WooCommerce products from being purchased by unauthorized members
- Added password strength meter to all MemberPress forms where password fields are shown
- You can now protect RAR files with our Custom URI Rules
If you'd like to see all changes in 1.2.8, you can consult our full changelog.
These updates seem really great! The use role integration is especially awesome. In my case, I use Advanced Custom Fields which doesn’t recognize memberpress levels, but now I can just use the WP roles instead. Thanks!
Yeah… That is an awesome update. I was thrilled when I saw it. Things are going to get a lot better and easier now.

Adding the user role integration is great as it will make it easy to map memberships to individual rights groups in Simplepress – yay!
