The beauty of owning an online business is that you have the flexibility to work at your own pace and on your own time. However, when you're trying to come up with new ways to expand your business and gain new customers, it can be pretty tricky.
One of the ways you can go about solving this problem is by brainstorming. Whether you brainstorm alone or with your team members, this method will help to get your juices flowing and come up with some fresh new ideas for your business.
Brainstorming does not have to be hard, and there are several ways that you can go about it. We'll discuss a few different brainstorming techniques in this post.
Mind Mapping
One excellent way to generate ideas for your membership business is by mind mapping. In this method, you write down a subject on a piece of paper or board, then branch that topic out into subtopics.
For instance, if your topic or issue is monthly income, you could branch this out into things like marketing, pricing, customer service, reviews, and so on. You would then branch out those topics into more specific subjects. Doing this will help you gain a more precise understanding of what your company could do to improve your problem.
SWOT Analysis
A SWOT Analysis is a process where you pinpoint your business' internal and external strengths and weaknesses, as well as potential threats and opportunities. This can be used to develop new ideas or even to decide whether or not the plan is a worthy venture to pursue.
A SWOT Analysis allows you to sit down and ask the questions, “What is our company's biggest strength/weakness?” “What are some areas that we could pursue that we haven't?” Asking your business these tough questions will help you to determine what efforts might be best and most feasible for your online company.
Writing
Another excellent idea generation method is merely writing. Sitting down, or sitting your team down and having them write for five or ten minutes is a great way to get your wheels turning and possibly help your organization create some new ideas for your business.
This method is straightforward. All you will need is a piece of paper, a pencil, and a place to sit. Time yourself for a few minutes and write. Even if you can't think of anything to write, write whatever comes to mind. You never know what you might come up with!
Venn Diagram
Do you remember working with a Venn Diagram in elementary or middle school? Never thought you'd be able to use this as a small business owner, huh? Venn Diagrams are a great way to map out the similarities between two or more things physically.
Like the writing method, this method does not require a lot of material or is expensive to do. Again, you need paper, a pencil, and your imagination. You can compare your business to another online business, or you can compare your services or your marketing campaigns to campaigns you've done in the past. That way, you can see what's similar and what's different.
All of the techniques listed above are excellent ideas for brainstorming sessions with your staff, alone, or even with trusted friends or relatives. Take time to experiment and see which method works for you.
