Understanding iOS Review Version Selection

iOS review version selection determines which app build Apple reviewers use during in-app purchase approval. Additionally, review builds can display products that are not yet available to regular users in the live App Store version. Moreover, this separation allows simultaneous product development and app operation without exposing unapproved products to paying members.

Accessing iOS Review Version Setting

Review version selection occurs within the In-App Purchases settings.

1. Navigate to Dashboard > MP App > Settings > In-App Purchases.
2. Scroll to the iOS Review Version section.
3. Review the dropdown displaying all generated iOS Release App builds.

The dropdown lists all iOS builds generated by the app build process, each with its version number.

Selecting Review Build for Published Apps

Build selection differs based on whether the app is already published on the App Store.

1. Navigate to Dashboard > MP App > Settings > In-App Purchases.
2. Locate the iOS Review Version dropdown.
3. Select a build with a version number higher than the current live App Store version.
4. Click Save Changes.

Higher version numbers let Apple reviewers see the latest build, while regular users use the current public version.

Selecting Review Build for First-Time Submissions

First-time in-app purchase submissions require a build selection containing the new products.

1. Navigate to Dashboard >  MP App > Settings > In-App Purchases.
2. Locate the iOS Review Version dropdown.
3. Select the build that includes new in-app purchase products.
4. Click Save Changes.

Submitting Build to App Store Connect

Submitting a build to App Store Connect activates the review version for Apple testers.

1. Submit the selected build through App Store Connect.
2. Configure the submission with required metadata and screenshots.
3. Submit for review in accordance with the standard App Store submission procedures.

Apple reviewers use the designated review version to test in-app purchase functionality during approval.

Resetting Review Version After Approval

The review version must be reset after approval to prevent unapproved products from being visible to regular users.

1. Navigate to Dashboard > MP App > Settings > In-App Purchases after receiving approval.
2. Locate the iOS Review Version dropdown.
3. Choose Select Build to clear the field.
4. Click Save Changes.

Clearing the review version field hides unapproved products from regular app users on the live version.

Managing Subsequent Product Submissions

New product submissions require repeating the review version selection process.

1. Generate a new iOS build containing additional in-app products.
2. Navigate to Dashboard > MP App > Settings > In-App Purchases.
3. Select the new build from the iOS Review Version dropdown.
4. Click Save Changes.
5. Submit the build to App Store Connect for review.
6. Clear the review version field after approval by selecting Select Build.
