Are you looking for an easy way to do onboarding for…
- Customers
- Clients
- Students
- or employees?
An online hub is the fastest and easiest way to help people quickly and easily get the information or training they need – whatever it may be. But these types of hubs can be expensive and limited.
Fortunately, creating your own hub as a dedicated onboarding website is super affordable. And it gives you access to features and customizations most services can’t match.
For example, the majority of services assume a few standard and broad use cases (like those mentioned above). But what if you’re hosting an event?
With your own dedicated onboarding hub, in addition to standard onboarding, you could…
- Create a waitlist
- Manage attendees
- Generate unique QR codes for entry
- and more – all specific to your event.
So with your own onboarding hub, you can save money and do more. It’s a pretty good deal!
In this article, we’ll talk about the tools you need to make your onboarding website or hub with WordPress. Then we’ll show you how to do it step by step. Let’s get to it!
The Tools You’ll Need
To create an onboarding hub, you’ll need a WordPress website, along with these handy tools:
- RegFox. This is by far our favorite onboarding platform to use alongside WordPress. RegFox makes it easy to register users for an event, course, or website. The service enables you to create intricate onboarding processes and manage users.
- MemberPress. With MemberPress, you can offer registered users access to private pages, documents, and other types of content. Our tool also synergizes perfectly with Regfox.
- Zapier. This tool lets you connect “apps” and platforms to create “zaps” – an action that happens on one platform when triggered by an event on another.
- MemberPress Courses add-on. Our add-on can transform your membership website into an online classroom. You can use RegFox to onboard students, help them start attending lessons online, and even offer certificates.
- MemberPress Downloads add-on. With this add-on, you’re able to offer users access to downloads on your site. For example, you can share perks when users register for an event or offer materials for courses.
MemberPress makes it easy to register and onboard users. And, in case you plan to charge money, it makes it easy to accept payments too.
Regfox is designed to facilitate this process and customize onboarding from the ground up.
Plus it integrates seamlessly with MemberPress.
This integration lets you register users via RegFox and port that information to MemberPress and WordPress. That means after a user onboards, you can register them as a member on your site and give them access to unique perks.
In the next few sections, we’ll show you how to set up a MemberPress website and connect it with RegFox for a better onboarding process!
Why Create an Onboarding Site?
The concept of an onboarding website is simple. It’s designed to help you get people to sign up for something, and give them the information they need to use your service.
Here’s an example of an onboarding page built with RegFox:
You can think about an onboarding site as a central hub. It includes all the information you need for a specific event or situation, and it encourages people to sign up for it.
Onboarding website use cases
Some scenarios where using an onboarding site makes sense include:
- Summer camps. An onboarding site might include information about rules, what campers need to bring, intake documents, what to expect on arrival, and more.
- Virtual health and counseling services. Patients can fill out intake documents on the site, along with access information about how sessions work, billing procedures, and anything else they might need to know.
- New employee onboarding. New employees often have to go through a lot of onboarding documents. Centralizing these files alongside the signup forms for their user accounts will streamline the process.
- Event volunteers. Just as with campers, you can use an onboarding site to sign up volunteers and inform them about what’s expected of them.
- New club members. When you join a new club, you have to read its rules and regulations. An onboarding site is a perfect way to share this information.
- New forum users. Joining a forum means reading its rules and how the community works. An onboarding website can function as a signup page and information hub.
Overall, if you’re planning an event or running a community with an onboarding process for new users, a dedicated hub makes sense. That page can be powered by a third-party service such as RegFox and function alongside the rest of your website.
How to Make an Onboarding Website or Hub with WordPress (3 Steps)
You’ll need a MemberPress Plus license (or higher) for this tutorial. This license gives you access to Zapier integrations, which you’ll need to integrate MemberPress with Regfox. However, you don’t need a premium RegFox or Zapier account.
Step 1: Set Up WordPress and MemberPress
There are a lot of ways to set up WordPress. Some web hosts even do it for you. That way you can start working on your website immediately.
If you haven’t chosen a host yet, the post below can give you some guidance.
After WordPress is set up and ready to go, you’ll need to install MemberPress and activate your license:
You’ll also get access to ReadyLaunch. Our tool can help you design attractive and optimized website pages in minutes:
Next, it’s time to set up memberships. With MemberPress, you can create one or multiple membership tiers and give users access to different content:
For now, go ahead and make at least one membership tier. Then, you can check out our video on creating online courses:
Rather than simply creating a hub full of documents, you’ll be able to guide members through all the essential onboarding steps in your courses.
If all of that sounds like too much hassle, and you’d rather leave it to the pros, check out our Done For You membership site services.
Step 2: Set Up RegFox
Signing up for a RegFox account is easy, and you can use the platform’s free tier for this integration. After making an account, the platform will walk you through a simple setup process to create a new page.
To get started, follow RegFox’s launch guide to create an account and access the event page builder. RegFox offers a large number of customization options for your onboarding pages.
For a full breakdown of customization settings, check out this official tutorial video:
Once your onboarding pages are ready, it’s time to connect them to WordPress and MemberPress. Let’s return to the WordPress dashboard!
Step 3: Connect Regfox with MemberPress
With Zapier, you can connect “apps” or platforms to facilitate complex chains of action using “recipes”. To get started, create a free Zapier account.
If you have a premium MemberPress license, the platform lets you see all available Zapier connections from the dashboard. To get started, go to MemberPress > Developer and click on the Zapier tab.
Use the search bar at the top of the page to look for the RegFox integration. After selecting it, click on Create your own workflow:
This will launch Zapier on a new page. Log in to your Zapier account and select a trigger for the recipe you want to create.
With RegFox, you can select from two options: when someone registers through your onboarding page or when the platform processes a payment. For this tutorial, choose the New Registrant option:
Zapier will ask you to sign in to your RegFox account. Finally, you can select which page to set up the trigger for. Choose the RegFox page you created during step two.
Moving on to the action. Zapier will show you which actions are available for MemberPress. For this tutorial, select Create Member:
Zapier will ask you to connect your MemberPress account. Enter your MemberPress API key as well as your site’s URL. You can find the API key under the MemberPress > Developer > REST API tab in WordPress.
Finally, Zapier will ask you to configure the action. That means choosing how MemberPress registers new users from Regfox. Zapier will show you several required fields, including options for usernames and passwords:
Select each field and choose the corresponding option from RegFox. For example, under Email, we selected the Registrant > Email option. This means MemberPress will register the new user with their RegFox information.
When you’re done, publish the recipe, and that’s it!
MemberPress will automatically register users that sign up for an event or course through your RegFox page. Then, you’ll just need to manually assign these users membership tiers.
Conclusion
RegFox is a fantastic option for creating fully dedicated onboarding pages for events, online courses, RSVPs, and more.
Not only that, with MemberPress, you can integrate your website with RegFox. That way, when someone finishes onboarding, MemberPress will automatically set up an account for them.
